1. What do you do when you suspect your child is involved in harmful activities?
Install a keystroke program on your child’s computer. This gives you the ability to read what they have typed on their computer.
2. How do I report a Predator?
First, you need to end the chat without alerting them. Save the chat. Make a physical copy. Contact the cyber tip hotline. Contact your local law enforcement so they may start an investigation. It is important to contact both agencies because the predator may be local or they may be across the country.
3. What happens when I click the “report this comment” link?
Whatever you are reporting goes to the company, not a law enforcement agency.
4. What stops kids from telling parents that someone has spoken inappropriately to them online?
Most children are afraid that their computer will be taken away from them. As parents, we understand that it is a matter of time before someone questionable will try to contact them.
We need to assure our children that reporting these conversations is a responsibility of using a computer. Don’t turn them off, turn them in.
